Well, think about this then-- his server has to send those 200 messages to 
every subscriber on the list. There are a lot of people subscribed to this 
list and that means a lot of server resources being wasted. That slows down 
his server, makes our other mail late, and gets him complaints about how 
slow the mail is coming in. He's the host and the closest thing to a 
moderator. He's supposed to get upset about things like this.

I'm subscribed to other lists that take more extreme action for this kind 
of behavior, whether officially or unofficially. So you get unsubscribed 
and banned for as long as you'd be wasting his server resources, plus a 
week. You can subscribe under a different email address. You can subscribe 
the original address a week after you get back. It's a nuisance to the 
banned person rather than an extreme punishment. It's an irritant. It's 
easy to get around. Be thankful you don't get banned permanently like some 
other lists I'm on. Be thankful people don't take auto-response as an 
excuse to try to hack your servers. This is not a big punishment.
