I based a lot of the tool on Spectra's excellent model.

Well, I create a structure which holds say an objects properties, I then
serialise the properties and place them in the DB as a WDDX packet. When I
want the object I call it via its UUID from the DB, de-serialise it and then
output it as straight CF/HTML

Each object has its own handler which displays the HTML as you need it/after
de-serialisation, may it be create, edit, delete....

I have not suffered any performance lag - even with a DB call and
de-serialisation of 5000+ objects.

I use meta-data to search the objects, the key is that you do not have to
have a true relational DB to get a site truly CM as the project managers and
developers become the true managers and relational schema of the site!
