Hi All-
Yes, for raw data exchange b/w scripting languages WDDX is great.
SOAP will be a lot better (and our preferred model) for
exchanging/using/remoting web programming interfaces.
With Greylock (the new COAPI in CF), we've moved away from storing content
objects in WDDX -- we use standard relational models, but will offer you the
choice to externalize those objects in standard XML, which you could then
either a) ship over the network to someone/thing, or b) process with XSLT.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Subject: RE: [cf-xml] XML WDDX - whats is its future?
WDDX is cool, as I'm sure lots of us have used it to great advantage. I too
was a Spectra programmer, and I agree that it was an excellent model for web
development.
The problem with WDDX and especially with Spectra, was that to use the XML
you have to read in the WDDX, deserialise it to a program construct and then
run CFML against the construct to build the resulting page.
If on the other hand you build your own XML vocabulary, you can very easily
use techologies such as XSL to transform the content object. Since WDDX was
built to serialise programing structures, it would be very difficult to
apply an XSL to it.
On the other hand WDDX is excellent if you want to do such things as
serialise structures, etc, to a file for future use, or if you just want to
pass a programming structure from one machine to the other. I use it all
the time to pass queries between servers.
In short I see a future for both technologies. In my mind, although they
both use XML, they are both usefull in different areas.
