As long are your aware of the limitations of hosting on a ADSL line that's fine. Sorry if I sounded a bit rude. I've just run into a couple of clueless developer-types who host on ADSL on the cheap unaware of it's limitations.
I also prefer to manage my own servers but have them co located at hosting facility. At Mort Bay which I highly recommend.
256K is not that fast about equiv to 4 or 5 dial up modems - so your server will be appear slow if you have more users than this at any one time. Any hosting ISP should have a much larger bandwidth than this.
Sounds like the leased line you had in Spain was an ISDN line? Thankfully I don't have to use them anymore - I had a server hosted via ISDN many years ago and it was a right pain and hugely expensive for what it was.
