Super is compulsory, you'll get it whether you do contract work or permanent.
with permanent work its less hassle to have it all super go to the 1 account.
Paid Holidays,
Sick leave
Con, Lack of variety.
Paid holidays aren't that great. ya have to work a whole year to have
4 weeks holidays
with contract work you can do a 3 month contract then take 4 weeks off
then do another contract
Con, you can come complacent and when its time to leave or your
redundant your skill set might not be as up to date as say a
contractor.

>
> Short term job security only
> No super

> Greater variety of work?

You'll get super, if your using an ABN though you'll have to pay your
own super, but that's why ya get paid more so ya can do stuff like
that.
if your working as a direct contract employee they'll pay your super.
a con is if you work for say 5 diff companies in the 1 years its
possible to have 5 diff super funds, so you have to really push for
your chosen super fund to be used.

the variety is much greater, and you'll meet a lot more people which
will help you increase your network etc.
you'll also get a lot more holidays, although they are unpaid.
no sick leave, greater pressure if short contracts. I once had the flu
doing a 4 week contract and it was not fun, if I was working full time
I wouldn't have gotten out of bed let alone come to work.

Pro, You'll earn a lot more money,
Con, unless you have a good portfolio/CV and have networked well you
may experience some dry spells between contracts.
Con, you have to be prepared to move all over the country, this isn't
good if say you have kids or get home sick or expect everything in
life to come to you.

> While I'm at it, what do you think is a fair contract rate for a good CF
> developer with seven years experience?
Min $60 PH if someone won't pay more then that then stay in your
current job, you should earn more then double ya rate for contracting.
There is a skills shortage at present regardless of what anyone says I
believe there is so push hard.

> I don't know if I'm good or not but that's what I'm telling everyone else ;)
Sell your self just make sure ya can back it up.

Hope some of the above helps.
