Well you _can_ run SQL Express in production sites for free.

Agreed. And in my experience, most small shops using MS-SQL are
violating the license by using a 5-user MS-SQL Standard license
instead of the *required* MS-SQL Unlimited License, which is around
3k/CPU. So ASP/.NET + MS-SQL Std properly licensed on a 2CPU box is
well over $6000 -- which about the same as CF *enterprise* plus a Red
Hat/SUSE license plus MySQL/Postgres/Firebird (or even MSSQL
Express/MSDE which is more than adequate for most small shops that
"need" MS-SQL).
