Speaking of golf (in my previous note about the nice weather here in DC), I
was talking with some CFUG managers in Boston last week and we found that
quite a few of us were into golf. It got us thinking that maybe a CFGolf
outing might be fun. It could be done in such a way that we play golf in the
morning to mid-day, and then have tech sessions in the afternoon. Whether
it's one day or two is up for debate.

The golf could be made to be totally for fun and socializing, playing games
that eliminate any competition or even need for golfing skills, and
switching partners multiple times in the round to maximize networking (some
may be familiar with these sorts of games as they're often used in benefit
and social tournaments to keep it enjoyable for all).

It so happens that most of the folks I was talking to were in the northern
US states (from NY to Minnesota), so if we pull it off up there (or down
there, to you lot!), folks on this list would be most welcome. I'll be
curious what you may think of the idea. It's the first I've mentioned it
publicly.

Hey, maybe I can get Kevin and Byron to organize it. NOT!! :-) They need a
well-deserved rest from any event organization after the stellar CFNorth. I
doubt any regional event will ever meet the standard they've set. Actually,
I'd most heartily welcome both of them as guests of honor at the
event--again, doesn't matter if you play golf, you two.

Since I've not given any serious thought to a location, I can't know what
the costs will be. Most such golf weekends end up being a couple hundred
bucks for the golf and food, and hopefully we'd get a seminar room thrown in
for a couple of hours. Accommodation costs will vary, too, with the chosen
location.

So that those on the list who aren't interested aren't annoyed by such
notes, if you just want to say "I'm interested", please drop me a note at
[EMAIL PROTECTED] It's not a commitment. I realize that location and
date (and cost) may play a big part in people's interest. I'm just kind of
testing the waters. BTW, if anyone has recommendations for a course that
might be compatible with this idea (not too expensive, with a room for
seminars, perhaps close to highways and/or an airport), let me know that too
off-list.

For those who may be curious about the response (or whose interest may
depend on the response), I'll tally up a summary and report back to the list
at the end of next week.
