Referring to the original article in Vector vol 10.4 it had no title
beyond the series title: At Play With J.

I don't know at what stage it acquired the rider: tacit definition --
that I guess must be put down to editorial misclassification based on
the opening sentence which uses the term "tacit definition" as a
casual example of something to make the eyes glaze over.

If the volunteer revising it can suggest a more appropriate title for
what has become Chapter 2, I should be grateful.

And yes: IMO advances in J (or desktop computers) since Gene wrote the
articles are best handled as footnotes or endnotes. But... each case
on its merits. Volunteers: please suggest the wording of any footnote
or endnote you think it needs.
http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/Doc/Articles/Play102 illustrates how.
