Well --- The instruction set is quite different on the 360/370 series from that of Intel although the C compiler should take care of most of that; however, testing to verify it is OK would probably be pretty extensive since it is such a different platform.
I imagine that memory management on LINUX would be pretty much the same, but under native VM or MVS the memory management is quite different. Not sure where mapped files would go as on MVS mapped files reside in a different address space from the application and there is no limit to the size of the mapped file in MVS. An opportunity to enhance mapped files but done so differently. A chance to exploit vector units but again, quite different. 2010/3/7 Björn Helgason <[email protected]> > Why? > > J runs very well in Linux > > 2010/3/7 Don Guinn <[email protected]>: > > Roger might not agree. > > > > 2010/3/7 Björn Helgason <[email protected]> > > > >> The thought is not wild at all. > >> IBM has servers that use VM and lots of Linux sessions. > >> I am sure setting J servers under such Linux environment will be > >> relatively easy. > >> > >> 2010/3/7 Don Guinn <[email protected]>: > >> > Maybe J could be put onto IBM MVS and VM with the client side on PCs > >> where > >> > the character set is ASCII.
