My best J experience has been obtaining a concrete representation of
multivariable polynomials:

x o x o ... o x o A

evaluates a homogeneous multivariable polynomial with coefficient the symmetric
matrix A. There are n x's, o is +/ . * and the evaluation is quite like a *
x^n
for one term of a scalar polynomial. I remember the forum helped formulate a
simple test for an array being symmetric; seeing that happen was part of what
made the enterprise a best experience.
