Yes, I agree that it would be nice to be able to customize a mail
reader to my own preferences, although my preferences are likely quite
different from yours or anyone elses.

A preference I have would be to use a Tab in front of paragraphs and
maybe for lining up columns in a message, but gmail does not make that
easy, does it?

I have also thought I would like to annotate and edit some messages,
for my own later reference. One workaround I have contemplated for
this, but have not as yet tried, would be forward messages to myself
after annotating/editing them.

I agree that gmail find is very powerful.
