See? Do you see want I mean? It's really tough to be impartial!
LOL! ;-)
But that's also why a comment like that would not be on the comparison
page. 'Cus even though I'm right and anyone else who thinks differently
is wrong, they need to come to that conclusion themselves. I can't tell
that to them.
Seriously, there are point in which Cherokee is better, like the
configuration or the source code, which are very difficult to
measure.
They can only be measured through experience. I know that the Cherokee
configuration is better because I've configured lighttpd, apache, and
Cherokee. I don't know that the code is better (not that I doubt you)
because I've not really looked at the code for either Cherokee or
lighttpd (and won't even bother trying to look at the code for apache).
For most users, the quality of code isn't something they care about
(maybe they should, but they don't, that's why people use IIS). For a
developer, they are going to decide on the documentation and/or how easy
the code is to read.
For a comparison page we could have to following things (things marked
by a question mark are maybes):
* Official site
* License
* Platforms (windows, linux, bsd, etc)
* Language (C, Ada, Fortran, etc)
? Dependencies
* Protocols (HTTP/1.1, HTTP/1.0, SSL, etc)
* Features (rewrite, proxy, CGI, FastCGI, PHP, etc)
* Benchmarks (with instructions on how to replicate)
* Links to documentation
? Sample configuration files
This way, a user can get a good glance at each project. None of the
above need be subjective. If they don't believe the benchmarks, then
they can replicate it themselves. If they want to read the
documentation, it's there. If they want to see how the same site would
be configured using each server, they could check, etc.
Also, this is a wiki, so if someone from another project saw an
inaccuracy, they would be able to fix it. If present it as just an
aggregation of data (which it should be) then sane people won't get
offended. And I don't have the energy to worry about the insane people
that might.
