The 3 speed works pretty well if you don't hammer on it too much. I had a 68 ElCamino daily driver mild 350 3sp with a Hurst shifter (back in 1985). It has a low first gear then a big step up to second. I blew second gear two times but I drove it kinda hard. Once I was given a replacement trans for free then second time found a trans for $25.00. I liked the shift pattern on the 3sp.
