Thanks for the several answers I quickly received on solid versus hydraulic valve lifters. This then leads to the subsequent question and I will call it a day and thank you again. This 396/325 engine (1967 SS) has a competition cam placed in it. When the engine was rebuilt last summer the guy I purchased it from told me he put in a competition cam in it. Not the original style cam. So, has a nice lumpy idle sound. And lots more power. OK. There is a slight ticking noise from valves. I was told if solid lifters then noise is normal. However, if hyrdralic lifters then the valves may need adjustment. Now I recently read that certain high performance cams will make the lifters sound that way. Engine runs fine. Actually runs great. But, if it needs valve adjustment I will do it. If noise normal ok. Advice. Thanks again. Have a pleasant weekend.
