Thanks for the several answers I quickly received on
solid versus hydraulic valve lifters. This then leads
to the subsequent question and I will call it a day
and thank you again.

This 396/325 engine (1967 SS) has a competition cam
placed in it. When the engine was rebuilt last summer
the guy I purchased it from told me he put in a
competition cam in it. Not the original style cam. So,
has a nice lumpy idle sound. And lots more power.

OK. There is a slight ticking noise from valves. I was
told if solid lifters then noise is normal. However,
if
hyrdralic lifters then the valves may need adjustment.

Now I recently read that certain high performance cams
will make the lifters sound that way.

Engine runs fine. Actually runs great. But, if it
needs
valve adjustment I will do it. If noise normal ok.

Advice.
