i had a clunking noise in the 7.5" rear under my 86 Cutlass. Well it turns out it had busted off a ring gear tooth. It got progressively worse and when it went, it ended up shearing 5 teeth off the ring gear. Pretty nasty, took me forever to get all the metal filings out. That was a Richmond gear too.
