I work in the largest glass plant in the world and the prime ingredient in making glass is silica sand. Twenty five years ago when I worked in the rail dock unloading sand cars,we weren't aware of the dangers of silicosis and often didn't wear respirators. The effects take a long time to show up and are worse than emphysema. Breathing that dust is bad news, folks. Wear the proper safety gear when sandblasting.
