John, I think you are doing the right thing. I can take that Elky off your hands right now for $500 if you can deliver to Roanoke, VA. :)
Give that all the consideration it deserves. I'm going to call Hagerty for insurance on the Olds so that I can take it out on sunny Sundays and also to give it a good going over. I just took it off my regular insurance a couple of weeks ago. That car never fails to cause people to shout out "do you want to sell it?" I am going to finish the work that the El Camino needs to be roadworthy, most likely including the replacement of the floor pans, and I will have it buffed out. I seriously doubt that I will have it repainted though. It is decent looking and mechanically and cosmetically everything is brand new, so I should be able to get a half-decent price for it. Neither of these cars was ever my "dream car" so I don't mind selling them. I'm sure I'll have another old car at another time. The El Camino did make me ask myself why I am pouring so much money into cars that I don't need when I don't own a house. I had a nice house once before and I'd like to stop paying rent and take advantage of the low interest rates. It's a practical decision, and I think that for once in my life even my dad would say that I'm doing the smart thing. I still love the old cars but I think I should be concentrating on the bigger issues first and then come back to my frivolous hobbies.
