If your trans is a 69-72 Muncie you'll need shifter number 373 7834 and installation kit 391 8014.  Fits w/ and w/o console.

Subject: RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 SS M21 Shifter

OK ... Thanks - I'm still at work, the car's home, and i must have mixed the descriptors in my help message - sorry to confuse the issue - Installed presently is the second type, the Super Shifter, it has to be, because the linkage IS straight to the shifting rods.  So If I want to go back to factory original model or equivalent I'll look at the others like the comp plus.  Thanks for the help.

You need to be specific with the type Hurst you have.  The Competition Plus and the Super Shifter are two different animals altogether.

Hurst makes basically two types of shifters ~ regardless of "M" series.  The Comp Plus is a direct replacement for a factory unit and comes up through the same hole and fits both console and non console cars.  They make a multitude of shifters (the handle and main body) and installation kits (rods, arms, nuts, bolts, etc) for various cars.

The Hurst Street Super Shifter (and the Super Shifter 3) is quite a different animal.  The shifter is mounted higher and more in line with the transmission arms allowing for straight shift rods.  There is only ONE shifter and a limited number of installation kits.  These are not designed as casual upgrades (as the Comp Plus is) and Hurst specifically states they will NOT fit consoles and require floor surgery.

I would download the Hurst catalog from Mr. Gasket (http://www.mrgasket.com/pdf/hurstfull2001.pdf) and identify what you need before ordering.  If you have a Street Super Shifter or Super Shifter 3, you should be able to sell that to help finance the Competition Plus.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] 69 SS M21 Shifter

I finally got my first Chevelle - waited 30 years! :) - it's a '69SS 4 speed with console - And it has a Hurst Super shifter or super comp shifter in - which is ok, but I want to replace it but could use suggestions since this is my first resto. The present Hurst unit is mounted such that it protrudes though the floor left of the console, and the former owner hacked up the console and floor pretty bad to get it to exist there. The trans is a Muncie M21. I want to go back to a shifter the comes through the console as it did from the factory, but i would also like to improve upon the factory performance and not have quite as much slop, or throw. What unit(s) have you used/tried and how did you guys make out THANKS!!! Ron 69SS - and silly with his new car.
