Hi,

That was post back in Dec was from me.  I was in the same boat ... you will have to take the clutch linkage out; I had to.  I don't think there is a way without doing it.  Then I had to motor mount bolt out from the drivers side and tilt the motor towards the passenger side.  The header will side out ever so slightly from the bottom.

To get the header in I had to tap it in with a hammer (Carefully ;-)

This was done on a SB ... not sure of the dimensions on the BB, but probably very similar.

Hope this helps.

-Graham.

The thread is [Chevelle-list] Best way to install the driver side Exhaust Header It's right near the top of the page.  I hope it helps.  Looks like the answer was to lift the motor up a bit, like I posted earlier.  Good luck.

Believe me I have thought that many times, but I don't have a cutting torch available.  I guess I could rent one.

Maybe you should cut them up to get them off, if they are old crap?  Perhaps your new headers are a different shape and might slide in?  Just an idea.  Don't kill yourself trying to get aftermarket cheap crap headers off!

Tried removing the old filter and still no luck.  It appears that it may come out from the bottom the best.  The clutch linkage is the only thing I can see holding it back.  I am def. not a pro with anything to do with clutches so is there anything I should look out for taking the linkage apart.  You are right, I do NOT want to have to take the head off.  They are some kind of aftermarket cheap crap header, two of the four pipes were smashed about half closed so I have some Hooker's in the box waiting to go on it. I have a 69 4spd big block and I am having a rough time getting the driver's side header off.  The passenger side came out from the bottom, but the driver's side hits the clutch, steering, etc. so, unbolted motor and moved steering column out of way and it still will not come out the top.  Any secrets I am missing?
