Personally there's something to say about a restoration having the numbers
matching engine, trans and rear end.  There are guys who are glad just to
have the "correct engine and trans".  If you are trying to keep an
authentic restoration then rebuild the 307/Powerglide.  If it doesn't
matter to you then go to the 350/350 Turbo for some more hype, but by all
means keep the original engine and trans. for a future numbers matching
need scenario.  My wife hates the 4 spd in our '66 SS and gave her
permission to put an automatic if something were to happen to me,
contingent that she keeps the 4 spd with the car.

I have a 70 Chevelle convertible. I'm wondering what to do as far as a
restoration goes. Should I rebuild my numbers matching 307/powerglide
(OOOOOOOOO) or set it to the side and build a 350/350 turbo and put in
it????? Any thoughts? The car is really clean and dependable but with
116,000 miles the 307 is getting tired. What should I spend the money
on??????
