Rick,
I built a 28' x 36' x 12' pole barn a few years ago, my wife calls it the
"Chevelle Hotel", and was asking the same
questions. On a garage I built about 8-10 years ago, 24' x 32' x 10' if
memory
serves, I went with a 18' x 9' insulated door and was very happy with it. On
this one, I wanted a three bay configuration and was toying around with the
idea of 1 10' x 10' door and a 16' x 9' but went with three 10' x
10's for the look. I happy I did because I can fit anything in there I want
too, and have great air flow in the summer with these high ceilings, but,
more importantly, can walk in and out the doors with room to spare. The down
side to a big door is the major heat loss in the winter upon opening and
closing but IMO, a small price to pay for the lack of a center "In my face
all the time" post.
With the other garage, I had 100' of coiled 1 1/8" plastic pipe that I laid
in the trench for the electric lines from the house and had a permanent
conduit from the house to the garage. My thoughts were, if I needed to lay
lines for an intercom or
remote alarm in the future, I could just feed them through the "tube". Also
ran cable and telephone lines and
had a hydrant set up by the side door. Just a couple of ideas for you.
Good luck,
Rich

go with the one 16 by 8 I added on to my garage actually doubling it, but
put the two 9x8 and have been kicking my self in [EMAIL PROTECTED] for it ever
since. my
wife has a harder time backing the car in and it does make it look more
open
with just the one door. the only good thing about the two doors is that my
tool box fits in the spot between then nicely.

Subject: [Chevelle-list] Garage
I am in final planning for my new garage. Gonna be a 24x36x10
D-I-Y pole barn. I'm buying attic/storage trusses for the front &
rear 12 feet. Then scissor trusses for the middle 12, give me enough
overhead room for a lift IF I can ever swing it.
I'm stuck on what to do for garage doors. 2 9x8's or 1 16x8???
(BTW - gonna have a 9x8 back door too). I'm thinking that 16x8 will
be easier for entry & exit and PROBABLY more practical. Any thoughts
on that? Thanx.
