Stock BB bottom ends are fine and can handle a bunch of power. A two-bolt 454 block can easily handle 700hp.

One question is the motor the original motor to the car? if so and you want to keep it in the car. build on a budget in mind . one idea is to build bottom end up the very best you can , Ive always herd that the bottom end was the week point in the BBC. you can always build the top end later while in the car (but do a simple head job just to keep it right).But if you can do all at once is best. I built my 454 on a budget all at once, best motor Ive ever had, runs 7s in a 1/4 on pump gas(400hp) and i dont have to work on it every week end very dependable.
