Thanks guys. I have time to think about the engine. The guy said he would really recommend the stock rebuild for the price. I am also not wild about .060 over. There's a question of heat there too as you make the walls thinner. I am not expecting to put so many miles on this engine that I would ever need to get a second rebuild out of it. I do have headers and HEI and I can certainly get a better manifold and carb.

 

I have built engines myself, most recently the one in my El Camino. It just involves a lot more time and I would like not to spend too much time on this so that I can get on to other projects. The fenders and inner fenders are supposed to be coming in a couple of weeks and I'd like to have the new engine in while the nose is off. Trusting a local machine shop in a town that I don't live in, hmm, maybe not. It would be different if I knew somebody or had a strong recommendation, and they could get it done quickly at a good price. My engine is not original to the car though, so it really doesn't matter. I'm just looking for a convenient and clean solution right now.
