Any dog going full out leans when it turns, and when they lean that dew claw can dig into the dirt, if you think removal hurts try stripping the cover off that dew claw, leaving only the blood supply. Has happened to my greyhounds more that once because my Vet would only remove the claws when he had to knock her out for something else. My chi had his done as a puppy and most of the big dogs breeders do theirs as a matter of course. Anna

I'm not even sure what vet she used. I don't really care as long as it
doesn't bother her which it doesn't that i know of she never licks it
or anything? My opinion would be if it doesn't bother her and it doesn't bother you just leave it be. =) My lovely Sophie has both her front dews. Lots and lots of toy breeders don't even remove the front dew claws. Dew claws are more a problem in the working breed dogs. Hunting dogs could easily snag and rip a dew claw working a field, etc. Some people feel a toy dog could snag a dew claw on say shag carpeting, but I don't think many people have that in their homes anymore. If the dew is kinda floppy, one may want to have it removed. If it were to become a nuisance, you could have it removed when she is spayed or had any surgery or a dental. I say what the heck, though. =) katie
