Cherry eye is very common in certain breeds. My chi has never had one
but our bully did as a pup. Don't rush into surgery! Her's was up for 2
days and then went away on it's on. It never came back... that was
about 10 months ago. They don't always go away, and in that case
surgery is needed. *Supposedly* the cherry eye isn't painful, but it
looks like it is. Once a chihuahua came into the clinic with a huge
one. It covered half of the eye, so it did affect her sight. Surgery
was done that day. The doc I worked for normally "tacked" the cherry
eye back into place with sutures. They can also be cut completely out,
but sometimes that causes problems in the long run. The only problem
with tacking them in is that they can come back. Not sure if your chi
has been spayed/neutered yet, but if not you may want to have both
surgeries done at the same time. That will be easier on your chi going
under anesthetic just once and save you a little money. ~Lacey
