When we bought this puppy the mom was already pregnant again. (The puppy
was 5 months old) In some ways I am afraid to contact her because she seems
to have no concern for the dogs and would probably tell me to bring her
back. It wouldn't surprise me that she would put her down. Besides we have
grown to love her. I have dealt with her about other concerns and she would
say just bring her back and want to offer me another dog. (This woman was
recommended to me by the Chihuahua Club of America. I thought I was finding
a reputable breeder and would have a healthy dog. I had put my trust in
them). When you have grown attached it's not that easy to just hand over
your baby. Her demodex is on all four legs, her tail is bald except a few
hairs, neck, and ears and she has patches here and there on her body. I may
ask the vet if we can try ivermectin. I also saw on the internet yesterday
this product by Bayer called Advocate that is put on like Frontline once a
month and is guaranteed to kill the mange mites plus different types of
worms. I am really tempted on giving that a try. Although it's not
available in the U.S. I can order it from Australia. I am thinking on
calling Bayer tomorrow to enquire about it. I have also read about the
goodwinol ointment but wonder if it is for minor cases. There was also a
shampoo that called Sulfaoxydex that has micronized sulfur and benzol
peroxide. I have read sulfur is used for this condition too.

Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Has anyone dealt with demodex mange?

I have had 2 puppies that had this. Scrappy my Pom had it around his eye.
The vet gave me goodwinol ointment to put on the area. It worked and so far
Scrappy has been fine. The vet said it can come back under stress or
sickness. The other puppy I had that had this the goodwinol ointment didn't
help and it was getting in several areas on the puppy. The vet gave him
ivermectin. That may be spelled wrong. He had to take it for 30 days. Some
dogs can had bad reactions to it but it didn't seem to hurt him and he got
better. Betty

Has anyone dealt with demodex mange? The poisonous dip is out. I know it is
due to her immune system. The vet feels the breeder may have been giving
too many immunizations or antibiotics We have been battling with our new
puppy for 5 months and so far have not had any success. The breeder had
written a sales agreement that she was healthy but apparently that wasn't
true. I really don't want to involve the breeder unless it is hopeless
because I think she would put her down and we love her too much and can't
even bear the thought of it. I have been using this shampoo, spray and
sulpher cream from petsrx on her but every time I think she is getting
better she has a relapse. The vet wants to ride it out and so far that is
what we are doing. Has anyone tried or heard this stuff called Kleen Green
enzymes? I am willing to give it a try but am not sure if the website is
honest about its ability of getting rid of these mites.

Hopefully someone can guide me,
