Hi Frank,

Welcome to the group. I have had chihuahua's 25 years and mine have always
been trained to puppy pads or paper. It was a lot easier when I was showing
them. I didn't have to leave the motel room in the morning and walk the dogs.
Now I have one with an enlarged heart and I don't take her out too often. She
is not supposed to get too much exercise but she still wants to play like a
puppy and she is 11 years old. They have very small digestive tracks and
bladders.

While I see that your terriers lived to a riped old age I think 13 hours is too
long to leave any dog. I know what shape I'd be in. A chihuahua will not get
any where near that expectation.

Good Luck,
Pam

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Hello and help

Hello fellow owners,

I am new to the group and glad I found you. A friend gave me a male and
female from the same litter and they are now 14 months old. I received
them in February paper trained. I decided to crate train them to house
break them and right now it is Tippy and Babs, 10 Owner 0. They do
fairly well in their crates but if I let them roam the kitchen (they
are gated in the kitchen when I am home) there will be accidents.

I had two terriers (bro and sis) that died this past winter at 16 and
they were crate trained in a month and could hold it for up to 13 hours
without an accident. Does any one have a possible solution to help me
finish crate training/house breaking 14 month old Babs and Tippy?

Thanks,

Frank
