Personally, I think it is a jealousy issue, lol. I think the show
people of the AKC's chi club do not want the competition, lol. But, their
claim is that there are to many health issues related to the merles and
that the merle is not a natural color in the chi so they had to have been
cross bred somewhere down the line. Well, lets face it, every breed we
have was a resulted of a cross breed somewhere way back! Merles can be prone
to health issues if not bred responsibly, but those who know what they are
doing know how to breed them safely. Like with any breed, the merle gene
(called different things in different breeds, like dapple in doxies) if you
breed two merles you can get blindness, deafness, ect...all the things that
go along with the "white" gene, but other breeds are not fussing about it
and the danger is the same for all breeds.

Marsha,
I found this very interesting. Do you happen to know WHY the
Merle's are being pushed out? I was not aware of this and I agree with
you, it will be sad for those breeders who have prided themselves on
their Merle's. I'm just curious why those puppies would be
unacceptable...sounds racists to me! (sorry...LOL).

Blue is genetic, so one that has the gene will always have
the gene. But yes, pups do change colors just as human hair do, but if
you have a blue pup it is still gonna always be a blue.......sometimes
blue don't always LOOK blue.
I do not purposely breed for any color and as I stated before
I am getting a bit tired of always getting blues, lol. BUT, my Ginger
carries a STRONG blue and always passes it. Two of my females are her
daughters and both are blue (Lucky is a blue sow...looks black and
Cayenne is a blue fawn sow) Lucky passed the blue onto every single one
of her pups in this her first litter. Cay has not yet had pups, so we
will see if she passes it....but my luck, she will. And no, I do not
base my prices on color.
ALL colors are currently recognized by the AKC as acceptable
in chis.....but there is a push right now to have merles disqualified.
If it passes, it will be the ONLY unacceptable color in a chi. I feel
sorry for those breeders who have invested so much into perfecting
their merle lines if this passes :-(

I do not know anything about blue's. My hubby had several
questions too? Canyou answer them for us? Do you breed them that
way on purpose; looking for the blue in the genes?
Does the blue stay the color forever or is it like little kids
with blonde hair and it gets a different color as the child gets
older?? Are blue's accepted in the Chihuahua pedigree and show
rings?? Do you get more money for them??
Thanks for the information. Diana

It still looks more like a
sable in the pics, when in reality, in person, it is solid
blue......I just couldn't get true colors to show. I have never
seen one as truly blue as this one....but it is already starting
to change, lol

lol, but the purpose was to TRY to show color. It didn't work
real well, lol. I have been getting a bit tired of having
blues all the time, but this pup has the prettiest blue I have
ever seen in my life. I am hoping it comes through at least a
little bit in these pics.......
