Merles can be prone to health issues if not bred responsibly, but those who know what they are doing know how to breed them safely. Like with any breed, the merle gene (called different things in different breeds, like dapple in doxies) if you breed two merles you can get blindness, deafness, ect...all the things that go along with the "white" gene, but other breeds are not fussing about it and the danger is the same for all breeds. Two of my females are her daughters and both are blue (Lucky is a blue sow...looks black and Cayenne is a blue fawn sow) Lucky passed the blue onto every single one of her pups in this her first litter. Cay has not yet had pups, so we will see if she passes it....but my luck, she will. And no, I do not base my prices on color. ALL colors are currently recognized by the AKC as acceptable in chis.....but there is a push right now to have merles disqualified. If it passes, it will be the ONLY unacceptable color in a chi.
