Merles can be prone to health issues if not bred responsibly, but those who know what they are doing know how to breed them safely. Like with any breed, the merle gene (called different things in different breeds, like dapple in doxies) if you breed two merles you can get blindness, deafness, ect...all the things that go along with the "white" gene, but other breeds are not fussing about it and the danger is the same for all breeds.
