Hi Michelle,

At what age did Henry stop growing and growing? I'm thinking my new one will eventually be bigger than Maxx. Maxx is 10 months and doesn't grow much anymore. He did grow longer a bit since I got him at 5months but it's almost not noticeable to me, until I saw his shirts tighten and become shorter. It wasn't that significant though.

Maxx was the runt of the litter. They were just 2 in the litter and the breeder gave me his brother first. The breeder meant to keep Maxx for himself as he was a runt. But his brother died of parvo and the breeder felt sorry for my loss and gave me Maxx to help me feel better since it was my first pet.

Maxx has been healthy eversince. Except for his snorting which is normal for a chi, he hasn't had any emergency vet visits. Neither has he given me any sleepless panicky nights. He did have a bout of cough last December. The vet said it was pretty common during that time because of the change in weather.

I have heard a lot about runts and like you, would worry about getting one. But I guess my case is slightly different since Maxx was meant to be kept by the breeder. So he was a special kind of runt, not one that breeders were trying to get rid off just to get some money in return. Hopefully, your breeder/seller is candid enough to let you know what to watch out for. Good luck!

I have to say "ditto" to Addy's note below. i was sort of disappointed when Henry grew and grew but am now so relieved he has some heft. I am very aftraid right now of having taken in (not yet but due soon) a runt. After reading what you have all said not just now but over the past few years IMO it does not sound like a wise choice. Not only have I heard of increased health risks and vulnerability of their small size but I've heard often little mommy's endure repeated C- sections with unconscionable breeders who want to get the "big buck" for teacup size. Very sad. Any more comments on runts welcome. I will probably also do a seperate post today.
Bless all the babies teeny and large!

Wow! I was dissappointed that my 2, supposedly, "tea cup chi's", kept
getting bigger and bigger till they both weigh about 9-10 lbs. I thought
I had been taken to the cleaners, because I thought I was paying extra
for a "tea cup" size. For the first time I am very glad they didn't stay small. It would break my heart to lose one of my girls so young. And, I
sure can't afford a lot of vet bills. TY! for your post, makes me
grateful for what I have.
Blessings to u and your's :-)
