Here is what I got from the breed standard website It is not 5 pounds but 6
pounds. I will have to watch closer because I have never seen a show chi
over 6 pounds.

******"Size, Proportion, Substance
Weight – A well balanced little dog not to exceed 6 pounds. Proportion – The
body is off-square; hence, slightly longer when measured from point of
shoulder to point of buttocks, than height at the withers. Somewhat shorter
bodies are preferred in males. Disqualification – Any dog over 6 pounds in
weight." **************************

no, not realy. I mean 5 pounds will be bred by most breeders if that is what
they have...it isn't considered too small....but a whole lot of our breeding
females are more in the 6 to 8 pound range. Even if you look at the dame of
a lot of show dogs, you will find the dames are over the 6 pound limit. Good
breeders often use larger females and smaller males to bring the pup size
down with the male, but assure a safe delivery with the female. I'm not
sayimg all the breeding females are this big, but it is not at all unusual.
Also, if you look at the champion pedigrees of many pups, you will find the
majority of the champions are on the sires side....this is because often the
females being used are bigger than allowed in shows. It is simply a safety
measure.
