I think it depends on the dog, not necessarily the sex. The little guy I just got bonded to me the first second we met, just leaped in my arms and started kissing me, but actually barked at my S.O. and backed away from him, acting very nervous. My Pug is a girl, though, and is my little shadow and always has been.
