Well Becky....I would say you are right. But...that being said...I will
still continue to take my dogs when I can because I just can't apply your
thinking to what I do in this case. You may be 1000 % right in your thinking
but I can't say I will change my ways on this one. I will continue to be as
considerate as I can...not rub or flaunt my dogs presence in the face of
those that wish not to see them...but I enjoy it...they enjoy it and no one
else knows!! Except all of you that I will most likely never see in Target
Lol!!!

I was not saying that it pertains to you. I am saying what if everybody had
the mentality of "I will do what I want because rules don't apply to me"?
Then there would be chaos. Then people would do the things I described. Then
no one would be safe.

There are places that are dog friendly, and personally, I would love those
places. However, if I am general public in a society with governing rules,
then I expect to go to point a and be protected from certain hazards. When
someone breaks the rules because they think they are above the rules-as in
this case-then you take away the freedoms of others, regardless of how
simple that freedom is to you or how pointless.

I personally love seeing dogs--all dogs. Yet, I would only expect them in
certain places or in places that openly allow them. That way, if I am not
expecting to encounter a dog/cat/horse/snake/pig, etc., I can expect to be
relatively "protected" from said animals.

I am not pointing fingers at a specific person, just advocating that rules
are in place due to general freedoms expected in our country. Freedoms I
hold dear as a military spouse--regardless of how big or small.

As I have said earlier, I do not personally agree with breeding of cats or
dogs. However, regardless of my own personal expectations, we live in a free
country. People are permitted by law and governing rules to breed. That is
not law breaking. I can promote spay/neuter, but I can mutually respect the
right of others to do what is allowed by law. It would be ridiculous of me
to expect everyone to agree with my point if I wasn't being respectful of
rules.

Think of it across other boundaries. What if you lives in an apt and your
neighbor was a drug dealer, cooked meth, etc? They could argue it's their
home, their body, their right not to agree with the rule that politicians
made about drugs. However, their rule breaking infringes on the rights an
freedom of the safety of others.

Just another way to think about it.

I would have to argue that the rule of no dogs is quite appropriate for most
public settings. Perhaps if everyone ignored the dog rule there would be
dogs of all shapes and sizes in every store or restaurant. What if they were
aggressive dogs? Does that matter? Nah, because I think those rules shouldn
t govern me and my dog/human aggressive pet. Sounds quite ridiculous doesn't
it? What about people who think it's ok to allow their pet to use the
bathroom in those places? Would that matter? Surely not. It's just a stupid
rule, right? What if a dog entered those places and wasn't vaccinated, got
out and bit someone? Would the rule matter? What if another person's dog had
worms, fleas, etc., would that matter in the public arena? Is it a stupid
law then?

Rules are in place for good reasons.

I don't think I worded my last reply to you right. I feel like if you want
to make a choice about breaking a law or whatever then do so but you can
only do that freely if it hurts no one else and since we live among others I
just don't think that is possible,. I believe in thinking for myself but
always OF others.

Personally Sheila...I think it to be a stupid rule! There are many rules I
break in my life because I think them stupid. I will always do this...it is
who I am to some extent. I don't have a lot of trust in rules that govern
people's simple choices...I like rules that govern the basic principles of
right and wrong...not stupid stuff. Do you realize how many laws are on the
books out of complete stupidity?? I wont obey those either. Call me a rebel.
.but I will always break or ignore stupid rules. I don't like others
imposing their stupidity on me...I never will! And trust me when I say that
just because some politician came up with some rule, that alone will not
sway me to find it valuable or important...or something i myself condone or
will allow myself to be governed by...i will always decide for myself what
is worth obeying. I do not see bowing to legislation as right or wrong...I
see choosing to do right or wrong and it has nothing to do with "political
policy"... Just my 2 cents. I stand ready to take the consequences if there
are fines or whatever but I will gladly pay the price and then continue to
choose. So...we just see things differently. I don't flow with the status
quo just because it exists...never have...never will!!

Yeah, sorry Deanna but if your dog is not allowed and you sneak it in anyway
then you break the rules. Why do you feel this is ok? Seriously? Okey
dokey. For me, just because no one knows it does not make it right. I just
have this very strong sense of right and wrong and fairness.

and Myrtle have been to the movies, claim jumper, all sorts of stores, and
everywhere I go...no one ever knows....sneaky is the operative word!!

Could you please explain your negative reply further? If your referring to
service dogs and blind-aid dogs, I fail to see how that ''makes it harder
for places to accept dogs that need to be with their owners for a reason''
since these dogs wear vest to prove why they have to be allowed by law.

But when you sneak a dog in like that it just makes it much harder for
places to accept dogs that need to be with their owners for a reason.

Yes, I remember...I was just hoping that He changed his mind by now,
especially since their have been postings of several rescue dogs in need of
homes and now puppies are available, which doesn't happen to often.

Well I guess you can continue to enjoy the group, in the mean time! You know
if you do get a tiny chi, they fit beautifully in a purse bag that even in
restaurants it will fit under your seat. As long as the dog is completely
covered and is a quiet dog. Some of them look just like a real purse and you
can't tell that there is a dog in it.

Ohhhhh, that is really sweet of you to offer that Peggy, and thank you so
much, but as you might have picked up from some of my comments in the past,
my husband is not as enthused about having a Chihuahua as I am. He feels
they are much more responsibility than cats (he's right) and he enjoys the
ease with which we can be gone from home for extended periods of time (all
day, overnight, etc.) without any cares. I explained he or she would just
go with us everywhere, but he mentioned restaurants, stores, and various
other places we go that will not accept furry ones. I hate to go against his
wishes and just show up with an adorable little one without his blessing as
he is a really kind, loving, and thoughtful guy and don't want to make him
feel unhappy since the decision would impact him also. He oohs and aahs all
the pictures I show him of everyone's cuties here on the group, but he
really would prefer we not have one for our own. (Sigh). So I am weighing
all my options and biding my time (LOL) to make the best possible decision
for everyone in my family. In the meantime, I love living vicariously
through and hearing about everyone else's experiences with their Chis on the
group, but IF and WHEN, you will all be the first to see and hear about the
newest member of my family. Promise.
