Blue Jays can be more territorial then a dog in my opinion. I once had the
misfortune of witnessing them destroying a Robins nest, I guess because they
wanted that tree. They flew to the ground and actually kept tossing the
baby robins back and forth to each other, and then would pick them up a few
feet and drop them and then the other one would start tossing it around
again, as if it were a game, all the time letting out the same mean call to
each other. Meanwhile, the male robin was trying to get them off of his
babies and the female robin couldn't stop screaming out her panic call and
trying to run to each baby as the Blue Jays flung them around. It was
horrible to see.

A neighbor and I went out and with brooms and chased the Blue Jays away.
The saddest part was the Robins would not let us clean up the mess, so we
left them for a while. Both the Robins kept making this soft sad pathetic
call while walking back and forth to each of their young as if mourning
their loss and would try to push the young as if to wake them up.They kept
doing that for almost an hour before they finally left. We had tears in our
eyes and could actually feel their pain. Their was no doubt in our minds
that they were mourning their loss. It was incredibly sad, and I lost some
respect for Blue Jays in general. Nature can sure be cruel sometimes.

Although the blue jays here have never paid any attention to the Chihuahuas,
a pair did attack my husband who was out mowing the lawn at our last home.
Hubby must have unknowingly gone near their nest. Bomb diving in a team
while non stop relentlessly pecking him on the head, they chased a full
grown man into the house. Those blue jays were quite violent for little
birds. Who would have thought? They even drew blood.

So true! The first time I saw blue jays roll my cat in our backyard, she and
I were both so stunned by the reaction of the jays protecting their nest
