Sue that is very true...it's unfortunate that so many people are not told this. When we chip dogs at our hospital - we tell the people that they can keep the registration to come back to us and we will notify them as long as we have their current info or they can call to make the update to their info. SO MANY times we have dogs lost that the chips are so old and outdated - that unfortunately the owner is never found (SAD).
If (or should I say 'when') - my new little girl gets spayed - she will absolutely get chipped.
