I see little ones all the time in my area. Most people that do have there dogs
chipped, will have the yellow tag.  That is if they have there collars on
still. A mircrochip does not guarantee you will get your animal back, but it
does keep them from being pts if they are taken in too a shelter, at least
until the owner can be contacted.
& Only if an honest person finds and takes the dog to be scanned.

Yes...that was important.  Her body is already fighting getting well.  The
microchip must do a little antibody activity when it is first inserted...plus
the stress of the situation.  I remember waiting four days to get Desi's
microchip was an eternity because I didn't want to lose him if he got out
somehow.
I asked my vet one time if when people bring in new dogs if he scans them for
a microchip...he said he only does it if the person asks for him to do it.
That was very saddening because I thought about if someone stole Dolly or Desi
that they could go to a vet and just say they were theirs and the vet wouldn't
check to see that it was my dog.  But, I think the shelters check, so if they
just got lost they would be scanned.

Yesterday there was  a min pin puppy running down the street and then went into
my community and went down the cu-de-sac...he knew that I was following him.
He had a collar but no tags.  He actually tried to jump the block wall...and as
little as he was he had his front paws up almost 5 feet.  I worry about him
because I didn't see him later.  I hope that someone was able to catch him and
perhaps get him to a vet to check him for a microchip...and then I worry that
he got back on the main street and got hit by a car or something.  He did growl
at me and I couldn't get close enough and I was running late for Church.  Of
course, if I did get to hold him, I couldn't really bring him home until after
church.  I hope that his family has found him.

Oh Yes Sue I agree totally! I had Dani done right away when I got her spayed.
When I adopted Ori I had his changed to my info right away. When I took
Caramella in for a check up with the vet, they said it was best to wait a few
weeks for her kennel cough to clear up and for her to gain some weight before
we did the microchip.

Both of our Chi's are. It is well worth it in case they ever get lost. The pain
isn't any more then when they get a shot. We had a man come into the shelter
today who just lost a Sheltie that had never been microchipped. His chances of
finding her are way less for that reason.
