Brenda, how much does she weigh?

There are some harnesses that are step-in. The ones that I have for both Dolly
& Desi are step in harnesses. You just put one leg through one side and the
other leg through the other. I bought one of them (Desi’s) when he was 8 weeks
old. After I put it on him, I just took a ribbon or something around the
harness ‘v’ and that pulled it closer to him, and then you just snap the top
and put the leash on.

There are also some very cute harnesses that actually look like a little dress
or shirt and just has the little ring at the top. If you will be taking her
out a few (or more) times daily, I would suggest one of those. It would be
lightweight for her and super easy for you to put the leash on the little ring
and out you could go. Take a look at this link as an example. I know that
they can be found for a more reasonable price also.

Put the little dress on her and she is not going to just sit in one place all
day. If she does, take it off after an hour, and then later put it on her for
another hour. She will get used to it. A traditional harness is usually very
stiff and with Chihuahuas being so small, in perspective to us, how would she
feel with those stiffer harnesses around her body?

Just a thought.

Thnaks guys so much for the experienced advice / commments. I looked for a
harness and could not get one to fit locally. I would never take her for a
walk- too small with collar....it was for potty training as she RUNS after
everything and FAST- it was for safety. I think I will have to purchase a dog
playpen and that way I know she is safe for the quick runs out to potty.

I only use harnesses, since a collar can be slipped so easily.

While I do keep collars on our dog for their ID tags, I will only use harnesses
to walk them. They are prone to trachea problems. She just needs to get used
to it.

What is everyone's experiences with Chihuahua pups and collars? I placed one on
her today and her personality changed straight away. I left it on for the
afternoon and then recently just removed it as she just stays still or
scratches at it.

Suggestions?
