Which make Linear Scale are you using. Is it Heidenhain? If the IC (on the Scale Reader Head) is connected directly to the Opto sensors, then it will be a amplifier/ Gate. Please check the IC no. once again.   What is the output tyep of the reader head - TTL (5V, square wave), 1Vpp , 11microAmps current signal.???   Does the output of the scale go to a Converter or Interpolator box?
