I get no results from a search of that number.

In an old transistor database I find:
MJE 720 NPN

ICmax =1.5A
Ptot 2W (is this an error in the database? The first replacement is a 20W type)
hfe>=40
Hfe bias=0.15A (so hFE=10 ?; can we trust this data?)
first replacement BD169
second replacement 2N4923

first I tried mje720 in the "product" search field. On semiconductors is the power & discrete components successor of Motorola, but the mje720 was not known to them. Then I tried the "competitor Cross-reference" field and got this result. No space between MJE and 720, mje 720 is not known..
