I've had a few Epson printers and have been happy with them but only when I
used Epson cartridges. I once tried refilling the black cartridge and the
printer didn't like it at all. If the refill ink had been the right one
rather than a generic fix all, it may have worked better but I've been put
of trying now as the last ink took a while to get rid of...

For black and white printing I acquired an HP LaserJet 4 from Ebay. They're
industrial bullet proof printers which seem to go on forever. Not
particularly modern and not the best quality around but reliable and
reasonably quick when they get going (12ppm quoted). I've seen them heavily
abused in schools serving classrooms of kids so it should last me a while
:). The trick is to get one with a low pagecount...
