I might mention that Francis Neilson's The Churchill Legend was followed by The
Making of a Tyrant, published in 1957. This was a long and critical review by
an unreconstructed pacifist of Alan Bullock's Hitler, A Study in Tyranny.

Not content with trashing WSC as a vicious warmonger, Neilson claims that
Hitler, far from being a tyrant, was a victim. To quote:

"In the four short years in which he set Germany on her feet again, he had time
to deal only with the immediate problems of rehabilitation in industry,
commerce, and finance. In the spring of 1937 his mind had to be given to the
threats from so many quarters where grave dangers lurked that he was obliged to
occupy himself with preparations that might be needed to defend Germany."

According to Neilson, the 'Tragedy of Europe' is that Churchill misunderstood
Hitler.
