Without knowing the implementation details, can we agree that the 
requirement on the Solaris CIFS server is that it be configurable to 
support whatever it is that an XP Home system does when you say 
"\\servername" to its Explorer, in a way that is from the client user 
point of view identical to the way it works with Windows?

I don't know what it's doing (but I can get network captures if 
desired), but if I put a brand-new-from-BestBuy computer on my network 
and set its workgroup name to HOME, I can say "\\dog\Jordan" and be 
browsing my directory on my desktop, read-write.  (And similarly for 
access via "My Network Places".)  I'm not sure it's actually necessary 
to set the workgroup name.

Solaris CIFS server should be configurable to do that, so that I could 
replacing my existing XP Home "dog" with a Solaris system and have the 
change be completely transparent to the client systems.

Right?
