Ok, whatever.  I'm not thinking about this at the protocol level, I'm
thinking about this at the user interface level.  I have no idea what
protocol level features the existing user interfaces are using, all I
know is that I never have to supply a password and I generally don't
have to tell it to connect as guest (possibly the first time, but it
happens so rarely I don't remember).

So, if share-level access is what I want, is *that* supported by the
kernel cifs support in a way that I can get the effect I want?
