Looking back at your original message, it looks like you have the CIFS client (smbfs) but not the CIFS service.
You could try downloading and installing SUNWsmbskr and SUNWsmbs from http://pkg.opensolaris.org again. If you're not able to get those packages, you could ask on the opensolaris help or discuss aliases.
