Actually, no one of us really knows why HV behaves the way he/she/it does.
At least that behaviour was consistent over the years ;-)

But if you step back and reconsider matters, you may realise that it's not
that easy. "being the lead" and "community project" bears an inherent inner
contribution. Either you decide, or you strive at an consensus with others.

The tricky part comes with the fact, that for every non-trivial development,
there isn't THE right way to do it. Typically you're facing a situation where
you have 10% knowledge at best. So what to do? Simple, you rely on your gut
feeling. Eventually, after everything has been worked out, you may be so
fortunate as to verify the prediction of your gut feelings, but usually
that happens months or years later, if at all.

Thus, every good developer has extremely well developed gut feelings about
how to approach any given problem at hand. And now comes the tricky part:
How will you handle the situation, when there are other developers --
more or less experienced -- which want to address the same problem with
an approach which is different to what you have in mind in almost every
respect?? And of course, that other approach is also based on gut feeling.

See, there is a real problem involved with that. The more knowingly and
dedicated a developer becomes, the larger gets this problem, and goodwill
helps only to a very limited extent.
