OK, another clue. I opened the original video in avidemux to see if I could
get a quick overlay accomplished (per your suggestion earlier). It plays in
avidmux just fine. But after it's passed over an area I can go back to
specific frames within that area and frame-by-frame I find black frames.
Just playing you never see them, only after playing and then going back
frame-by-frame do I see them, I can "play" again and don't see any of the
black frames during play even though I just saw them in frame-by-frame.

It seems this is a common thing in video, as some "how to split large vids
into smaller ones" online help indicate using avidemux to get a list of
black frames to use to split the vid on.

Interestingly if I tell avidemux to find all the black frames, it comes up
with an empty file even though I just got it to display them... (sigh)

I don't consider myself a "video buff", so I'm just trying to give you guys
the most information I can to make informed decisions.

:^D

Thanks again for all your help!
