<< I, for one, truly want all Cavalier breeders to be able to work together
again for the good of the breed, therefore I choose to think and act as
though it is just a matter of time until it will be that way. If we all
choose to do the same, it WILL happen! For those of you who are still
 pessimistic--stop it! >>
Thank you Laura, Joanne and Sue for speaking out.
Thank you for trying to educate in a rational and no-challenging manner.
Hopefully most of the listmembers do understand that change takes time even
when most of those involved are in favor of it. MOST of the people involved
in this breed have the same goals and are looking out for what is in the best
interest of our dogs. We would be foolish not to acknowledge that there are
a few who have motives we may not understand (though we can have our
suspicions) for wanting to block acceptance of AKC only dogs. But for us to
move too quickly without listening to all sides would be acting in the same
dictatorial manner that got us in this situation in the first place.
Some of the decisions made by the CKCSC board at the time of the split did
not have to be voted on by the general membership.....very, very unfortunate
to give that kind of power to a small group of indivuduals. Sometimes it
takes longer than many of us would like for changes to be implemented, but
that does not mean there are not many (including our current board members)
who are working very hard toward this same goal. To move too quickly,
without the general membership understanding that they are not being sold out
but instead the club is trying to safeguard our future. That does not happen
overnight.
Would I like to have the power to make that decision myself.....certainly.
Would I like to reach out to those caring individuals who I believe acted in
the only way they believed possible to keep the AKC parent club out of the
hands of the puppy mills and "beg" them to come back.....you bet I would.
But fortunately for us all we live in a democracy. Somehow those in power of
the CKCSC at the time of the split managed to ignore that fact and thought
they were smart enough to outwit both the AKC and the general membership of
the Club. Do I wish the board of today would move more quickly....certainly.
But given the choice of allowing them the time to make these changes with
consideration of all of their members or having them act in the same manner
as some of the board members that proceeded them, I would opt for the former.
We are getting closer. We have a new President who is in favor of this
proposal.
I just hope that we don't waste too much more time or we will lose some of
those wonderful dogs we have missed incorporating into our breeding programs.
And even some of the most loyal members of the CKCSC may soon lose patience.
