Hi List,
If it wasn't for the CKCSC, USA, Cavaliers in the United States would not
have been where they were when they became recognized by the AKC. I don't
think if you were a member in the original club and after recognition,
started showing in AKC that it is hypocritical, it is another venue. It is
not the same. Both showing venues have their pluses and their minuses. You
can go to the movies and you can go to the theater and enjoy both for what
they are.
Susan, I think you are off base with your reply. Everyone I know from the
club, that I show with in AKC, is not afraid of the club going belly up. We
go and show our dogs, have fun and do make a social event out of it. We
even invite "AKC only" people to have a social time of it with us. Meeting
new people, I was shocked at their opinion of us in the old club. I'm happy
to say that once they have met some of us, they know not all they heard was
as bad as what they thought. As Cavaliers are usually shown in the morning,
we will have lunch together, sometimes at the show site (depending on
vendors) and others times at a restaurant in the area. Time permitting, we
will then go where the dogs can have fun.
When I first started showing in AKC, I was amazed at how quickly people
appeared and disappeared in all breeds, as I had never been to any kind of a
dog show, until we had a Cavalier and went to a CKCSC, USA show where we
tend to make it an all day affair, into the evening, into the weekend.
Everyone has their own agenda, but just showing up in time to show your dog,
and leaving as soon as it is over, is not what I'm looking for when I go to
a show. I'm looking forward to meeting friends and having some Cavalier
dialogue, and a nice day with friends and Cavaliers.
