I was away yesterday and came home to many posts in regard to my
observation that there were often fine dogs to be found in AKC
shows--even dogs who have competed in and won brilliantly at CKCSC-USA
shows. Well--I guess that wasn't a politically correct thing to
observe. I've been slammed by some of you; AKC cavalier entries are
continually criticized; even the UK breeder got into the act.
Folks--for heaven's sakes--we don't live in a bottle. Of COURSE we
don't just observe cavaliers here at AKC shows. Those who choose to and
are able to attend the 24 CKCSC events scattered across the country
yearly, do so. Many of us have had the good fortune to see the best
the world has to offer in this country, the UK, Canada, Australia, NZ,
Sweden, Finland, France--etc. etc..I simply said--there are often good
dogs at AKC shows, albeit in smaller numbers.
Those of you who complain continually about how bad they are--and
tell us you show in AKC venues--well pardon me for scratching my head
here. Are you condemning your own breeding programs?
Finally--I might venture to say that you insult many of the world's
great breeders when you allege that small numbers mean we don't get to
see the good ones and imply that we don't, therefore, educate our eye.
Sylvia Hammerstrom and Pat Craigie Trotter would be bemused at that
one--usually there are no more than a couple (if any) of Giant
Schnauzers or Elkhounds at any shows in this country except the
Nationals. But somehow--they have muddled through.
